Topic: Scientific Inquiry Process
Standard: Uses process skills of observing, classifying, communicating, measuring, predicting, inferring, identifying, and manipulating variables. Also uses recording, analyzing, and operationally defining, formulating models, experimenting, constructing hypotheses and drawing conclusions.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 10 min.
Lead the class in a discussion of the scientific method. How is it used? List the scientific method on the board out of sequence. Underline the key terms. Draw a conclusion. Collect data. Test results. State the problem. Form the hypothesis.

Step:  2 Duration: 5 min.
Work with students to define the underlined words and to put the items in sequence. Discuss with students why the scientific method is carried out in a specific order.

Step:  3 Duration: 20 min.
Divide students into groups of four or five and have them discuss and list the types of careers in which the scientific method would be used. Have student groups discuss their lists with the class.
