Topic: Skills to
locate, understand, and use career information.
Standard: Identify various ways that
occupations can be classified. Identify a number of occupational groups for
exploration. Demonstrate skills in using school and community resources to learn
about occupational groups. Identify sources to obtain information about
occupational groups including self-employment. Identify skills that are
transferable from one occupation to another. Identify sources of employment in
the community.
Procedures/Activities

Have students make a list of different jobs in the school.
Discuss the school as a work setting.
Step:
2 Duration: 10 min.
Discuss characteristics of school workers (e.g., skills,
attitudes). Discuss similarities of characteristics of school workers.
Step: 3 Duration: 15 min.
Discuss how the work setting changes a job (e.g., food service
in school or in a restaurant, teaching in school or in a business). Discuss how
work for men and women is similar or different within the school.
