Personal Inventory
Students will synthesize the results of interest inventories, achievement tests, performance records, and standardized ability tests to formulate career goals in this Smart Choice activity.

C. Career Planning

Topic: Skills to make decisions.
Standard: -Demonstrate responsibility for making tentative educational and occupational choices. -Identify alternatives in given decision making situations. -Describe personal strengths and weaknesses in relationship to postsecondary education/training requirements. -Identify appropriate choices during high school that will lead to marketable skills for entry-level employment or advanced training. -Identify and complete required steps toward transition from high school to entry into post-secondary education/training programs or work. -Identify steps to apply for and secure financial assistance for postsecondary education and training.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 
Distribute “Personal Inventory” activity sheet and make available to the students the result of their interest, achievement, and ability tests along with their grades.

Conduct a group discussion so that students can share their own findings and learn from each other’s efforts.

File each student’s inventory in student portfolios to save for comparison in grade 12.

Assessment
Students will be assessed as they complete the “Personal Inventory” activity sheet, discuss their results, and identify a possible tentative career goal that matches the synthesis of all the information they have about themselves.
Extension
This activity can be used in preparation for the Planning Your Education activity. Repeat this activity in grade 12.
Remediation
Students having difficulty with organizing their results and correlating them to career matches can discuss personalities and career characteristics. This will help define suitable matches.

Modification
For students with significant disabilities, what changes can be made in instruction and teaching delivery to allow students to participate in classroom instruction while working on IEP objectives and off grade level QCC standards. Below are suggested modifications correlated to the procedures of this lesson plan.
