Procedures/Activities

Step:  1 Duration: 15 minutes
Tell students they will create a survey to administer to eleventh graders to investigate their work experiences and then chart their results in graphs. Divide students into small groups of three or four and have them discuss the various items to include on the survey.

Step:  2 Duration: 30 minutes
Once students have presented their items for the survey, ensure that they have items specifying gender, type of work (paid/non-paid/volunteer, etc.); specific work experiences such as apprenticeship programs, DCT, internships, etc.; other summer options, such as summer school, post-secondary options, etc. Work with students to finalize the survey design.

Step:  3 Duration: 15 minutes
Once the survey design has been finalized, have students use the computer to print up a one-page survey. Brainstorm with students on how to administer the survey using student groups and arrange with other teachers to have students administer the survey in other classes.

Step:  4 Duration: 30 minutes
After students have administered the surveys and collected the data, have them work in groups to enter the data, analyze the data, graph the data using graphing software and present their results.
