Procedures/Activities

Step:  1 Duration: 15 minutes
Discuss with students the rewards and sacrifices necessary for having a career. Have students list on the board the rewards of having a career (i.e., money, satisfaction, doing work you love, respect, etc.) and then have them list the sacrifices (i.e., time away from family members, little control over your time, time spent for education and training, expenses for transportation, clothing, etc.). Have students discuss the list.

Step:  2 Duration: 15 minutes
Distribute the Career Rewards and Sacrifices Interview Questions and explain to students that they will use this to interview 2 workers over 30. Encourage students to seek a interviewee in a career area they might want to enter. Explain proper interviewing and note taking techniques. Give students ample time to complete the assignment and create a report on their findings. Once they've completed the tasks, have them present their results to the class.
