Career Interests
Student will play The Career Interests Game, a web-based resource designed to help match student interests and skills with similar careers, and explore different careers based on their interests.

C. Career Planning

Topic: Skills to make decisions.
Standard: -Demonstrate responsibility for making tentative educational and occupational choices. -Identify alternatives in given decision making situations. -Describe personal strengths and weaknesses in relationship to postsecondary education/training requirements. -Identify appropriate choices during high school that will lead to marketable skills for entry-level employment or advanced training. -Identify and complete required steps toward transition from high school to entry into post-secondary education/training programs or work. -Identify steps to apply for and secure financial assistance for postsecondary education and training.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 30 minutes
Tell students they will be investigating their interests and looking at potential careers in their areas of interest. Direct students to The Career Interests Game web site, explain the directions and have students follow those directions to navigate the website.

Step:  2 Duration: 30 minutes
Once students have decided on their areas of interest, have them explore the career choices listed in that area of interest and prepare a brief report for the class on the results of their search. Have them include the Holland code(s) that best describes their interests and a description of some of the careers in their area of interest.
