Procedures/Activities
Step:
1 Duration:
Discuss with the class assertive behavior. Be sure that
everyone is clear what assertive behavior requires and the difference between it
and aggressive behavior.

Divide the class into small groups and read the following
situations.

Let them discuss how they would react, paying attention to
whether it is assertive, nonassertive, or aggressive behavior.

Following the situations, have the class discuss some of the
losses and gains that would occur when the assertive behavior occurs. Discuss
the risks and possible consequences to see if they would be acceptable to the
students.

Students are evaluated according to the descriptions and
understanding of situations where assertive behavior might be appropriate and
where losses and gains might occur in those situations.

Further scenarios can extend this activity.

Role playing can help students understand the difference
between assertive and aggressive behavior.
Accommodation
Modification
For students with significant disabilities, what changes can
be made in instruction and teaching delivery to allow students to participate in
classroom instruction while working on IEP objectives and off grade level QCC
standards. Below are suggested modifications correlated to the procedures of
this lesson plan.
