Procedures/Activities
Step:
1 Duration: 5 minutes
Discuss with class summer and after-school employment. Find
out how many students have worked previous summers and the types of jobs they
held. Did any of the jobs include income from tips? Working students should be
familiar with taxes. Tell students they will visit the IRS website to take a
tutorial on wage and tip income.
Step:
2 Duration: 30 minutes
Direct students to the IRS web site, Understanding Taxes,
Module 2-Wage and Tip Income and have them complete the tutorial, including the
print-outs and simulations. Explain the directions and be alert for student
questions.
