Students discuss careers and create and give an interview questionnaire on a career of interest to them, reporting to the class on their findings in this Smart Choices activity.

Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 
Have students name as many occupations as they can and record them on the chalkboard.

Step:  2 Duration: 
Have students identify some occupations they would like to know more about.

Step:  3 Duration: 
Have students develop an interview questionnaire to obtain information about the identified occupations.

Step:  4 Duration: 
Have students distribute questionnaires or conduct interviews of people in occupations in which they are interested.

Step:  5 Duration: 
Have students report their findings from the interviews back to the class.

Assessment
Students will be assessed on their questionnaire, the interview and the report to the class .
Extension
Students could make a collage/bulletin board of occupations to display in the classroom. Consider inviting the interviewees to speak to the class.
Remediation
Students experiencing difficulty generating interview questions or conducting the interview can use role-playing strategies to practice.
