Lead a class discussion on how each person has individual
interests and strengths. These differences are what make people
unique.
Step: 2 Duration: 5
min.
Students will identify specific interests and relate them to
career choices in which they would someday be interested.
Step: 3 Duration: 20 min.
Have students make a bar graph representing careers students
in the class have expressed an interest in. Students will develop a survey in
which they ask their classmates what specific strengths they have and determine
related career choices to illustrate on a bar graph and pie chart.
Materials and Equipment
Crayons or markers, Pencil or pen
Standards (Local and/or National)
Total Duration
30 min.
Technology Connection
Assessment
Students' pie chart and bar graph will be assessed for
accuracy.
Extension
Ask students to choose a career that they would like to
research. Instruct them to use resources from the Media Center to find out more
about the career and prepare a short report to share with the class.
Remediation
Ask students to go home and ask their parents what they wanted
to be when they were in fourth grade. Then bring the results back to class and
put them in a pie chart and bar graph.

Modification
For students with significant disabilities, what changes can
be made in instruction and teaching delivery to allow students to participate in
classroom instruction while working on IEP objectives and off grade level QCC
standards. Below are suggested modifications correlated to the procedures of
this lesson plan.
