Students will describe the process of making and keeping a friend.

Topic: Awareness of the interrelationship of life roles.
Standard: Describe the various roles an individual may have (e.g., , friend, student, worker, family member). Describe work-related activities in the home, community, and school. Describe how family members depend on one another, work together, and share responsibilities. Describe how work roles complement family roles.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 5 min.
Explain that the class is going to discuss the qualities that make a friend. Ask students for suggestions and discuss their responses.

Step:  2 Duration: 25 min.
Distribute the handout and explain the directions. Allow time for students to finish the activity and then divide the class into small groups to discuss their responses. Regroup the whole class and process the activity by having groups share what they learned.

Ask students to write letters to a good friend, thanking them for their friendship.

Have students write a paragraph describing the qualities of one of their close friends. They should describe the characteristics that make them a good friend.
