Identify work activities of interest to the student. Describe the relationship
of beliefs, attitudes, interests, and abilities to occupations. Describe jobs
that are present in the local community. Identify the working conditions of
occupations (e.g., , inside/outside, hazardous). Describe ways in which
self-employment differs from working for others. Describe how parents,
relatives, adult friends, and neighbors can provide career information.
Procedures/Activities
Step:
1 Duration: 10 min.
Have students look up the following words in the dictionary:
archeologist, veterinarian, and zoo keeper. Ask them to write the definitions on
a piece of paper.

Discuss what types of animals would be studied by an
archaeologist, veterinarian, and zoo keeper.
Step:
3 Duration: 5 min.
Encourage students to find pictures in their science book that
might represent the type of animals people who work as an archaeologist,
veterinarian, or zoo keeper would study.
Step:
4 Duration: 15 min.
Students will then develop a collage with drawings of animals
that could be studied by an archeologist, veterinarian, or zoo keeper and label
them.

Construction paper, Science books, Crayons and pencils

Students participation and completed collage will be

Extension
Have students research one of the careers discussed and
prepare a short report to share with the class.
Remediation
Have students create an animal book as a group. Ask one group
to create a book of animals that a veterinarian would care for, one for an
archeologist and another book of animals that a zoologist would deal with.
Accommodation
Modification
For students with significant disabilities, what changes can
be made in instruction and teaching delivery to allow students to participate in
classroom instruction while working on IEP objectives and off grade level QCC
standards. Below are suggested modifications correlated to the procedures of
