Students will explore careers that involve working with animals and draw pictures of careers that interest them.

Topic: The Living World: Animals
Standard: Compares various animal groups and how they are alike and different. Identifies groups of animals that have similar characteristics and names the characteristics.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 10 min.
Have a discussion with students about domesticated animals (cats, birds, dogs, fish, horses), ones they own or would like to own. Then discuss wild animals and the differences between them and domesticated animals.

Step:  2 Duration: 10 min.
Have students discuss various careers that involve working with animals (zoos, pet stores, veterinarian, horse farms, humane society, groomers, trainers, etc.) and list them on the board.

Step:  3 Duration: 10 min.
Distribute paper and crayons or markers and have students draw pictures of one of the working-with-animals careers they like best.
