Standard:
Describe work of family members, school personnel, and
community workers. Identify occupations according to data, people, and things.
Identify work activities of interest to the student. Describe the relationship
of beliefs, attitudes, interests, and abilities to occupations. Describe jobs
that are present in the local community. Identify the working conditions of
occupations (e.g., , inside/outside, hazardous). Describe ways in which
self-employment differs from working for others. Describe how parents,
relatives, adult friends, and neighbors can provide career information.
Procedures/Activities
Step:
1 Duration: 5 min.
Attach long strips of craft paper around the walls for
students to develop a mural of workers.
Step:
2 Duration: 20 min.
Have each student create a picture of someone he or she knows
who works. Have students draw the worker according to the way he or she looks at
work with the kind of clothing, tools, etc., that are necessary for the
job.
Step: 3 Duration: 5 min.
Have the students tell about the person in their
pictures.

Strips of paper suitable for attaching to walls, Paints,
Markers, Crayons

Students' participation in the activity will be
assessed.
Extension
Ask students to write a few sentences to go with their picture
and mount their sentences near the mural.
Remediation
Have students make a class book of workers that contains
pictures of different kinds of workers.

Modification
For students with significant disabilities, what changes can
be made in instruction and teaching delivery to allow students to participate in
classroom instruction while working on IEP objectives and off grade level QCC
