Career Interest Record
Students will identify personal interests and preferences by beginning an individual “Career Interest Record,” indicating interests, attitudes, aptitudes, and achievements.

Topic: Skills to understand and use career information.
Standard: Describe work of family members, school personnel, and community workers. Identify occupations according to data, people, and things. Identify work activities of interest to the student. Describe the relationship of beliefs, attitudes, interests, and abilities to occupations. Describe jobs that are present in the local community. Identify the working conditions of occupations (e.g., , inside/outside, hazardous). Describe ways in which self-employment differs from working for others. Describe how parents, relatives, adult friends, and neighbors can provide career information.


Procedures/Activities


Step:  1 Duration: 10 min.
Have students fill out the Career Interest Record at the first of the year, and then periodically throughout the year.

Students participation in the Career Interest Record will be evaluated.
Extension
Ask students to research their favorite career and prepare a short essay or report to share with classmates.
Remediation
Read books about several different careers to students who may be undecided. Expose them to as many different careers as possible.
