Informal perspective about a program of study. Home   Español

How I Got Started: I was an athlete in high school. I played basketball and volleyball, and ended up spending a lot of time recuperating after various injuries. The physical therapist that worked with me made the pain and effort that I endured worth it. I don't think my recovery would have progressed as quickly as it did without her inspiration and influence. When I began thinking about what I wanted to do with my life physical therapy seemed like a perfect fit. I want to be an inspiration for other people recovering from injuries, and help them keep their bodies healthy.

What I Want to Study: My first two years of college I will study anatomy, chemistry, and biology. During my junior and senior years I will study sports medicine, orthopedics, and body mechanics. By the end of my studies I will have learned how to work with patients and decide the appropriate courses of treatment for their recovery. These decisions may involve medicine, exercise, and massage.

What I Can Do in the Future: or in a hospital. Nursing homes and assisted living centers need physical therapists to help the people living there to stay active. I may work with the general public or specialize in an area that treats a certain population, such as athletes or the elderly. It gives me a sense of satisfaction knowing that my career will be one of helping people regain physical abilities that they have lost.
