So, here you are a Senior ! You've done your homework for four years, and now you have a strong GPA and an SAT score that makes your mother proud. You applied early to several schools and now you have three acceptances to choose from. The dilemma? Each one seems like a great place to spend your college years. How do you choose the one that will fit you best? |
Check
them out!
If you haven't visited the campuses yet, do it. A school might seem one way
in the brochure, but feel completely different when you're actually there.
Find out what the students are like. Try to sit in on a class. Does the school
offer the program of study you plan to pursue, or if you don't know what program
of study you want to pursue, are there plenty of options for you? Are there
campus-sponsored programs and activities outside the classroom that interest
you, such as club sports or music ensembles? What about the dorms? Will you
need a car, and if so, how is the parking there?
Know What You
Like
Take a minute to get in touch with your inner self. What do you enjoy doing
on the weekends or during your spare time? Do you enjoy shopping, camping,
strumming your guitar, or hanging out with friends at a trendy coffee shop?
Do you like the bustle of a large city, or would you prefer the atmosphere
of a rural or small town? Do you prefer to have lots of people in the classroom
or only a few? Think about the school. How far is it from home? Can you drive
home for holidays and breaks, or will you have to fly? How many students attend
the school? And the ultimate question, will it work for you?
Weigh the Pros and Cons
Chances are great that each school will have some good points and some bad
points. Make a list of the
pros and cons. Decide what your top priorities are and choose the school that
would make you the most comfortable.
Remember, the better the fit, the more fun you'll
have and the more successful you'll be!
