Program Profile: Equestrian Studies | Home | |||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: I used to visit my grandparents' farm every summer and help them with the chores and animals. My favorite animals were the horses because they were so beautiful and graceful with everything they did. I would stay up late at night and go to the barn so I could talk to them and brush them. They were almost like friends. In school I always liked it when we had to do a book report because I would always write about horses. I have read so many books filled with wonderful pictures and information on horses. I can't wait to keep learning more!
What I Want to Study: There are many different things to know when learning about and taking care of horses. Knowing hot to properly groom and train them to work with people is very important. Also, knowing the right diet and how the animal behaves is helpful. I can take Equine Science, Equine Disease, and Zoology to learn more about horses and how to care for them.
What I Can Do In The Future: After getting my degree in equestrian studies I will have many job options. I can become an animal breeder and breed animals for different things, such as, riding, working or show. If I was more interested in taking care if animals and helping them I could be an animal care taker. I would be responsible for feeding, bathing, grooming, and exercising the animals. I could also take a few extra classes and learn how to prepare animals for surgery and do surgical nursing.
