Program Profile: Landscape Architecture | Home | |||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: I like to work in my yard cutting the grass and trimming the shrubs. I also like to plant flowers and trees. It looks easy, but to do a good job, it takes a lot of time and hard work. It is important to me that all the lines on the grass are straight rows and the flowers are planted with an equal amount of distance between them. It takes a little extra time, but it is well worth it in the end, when the lawn looks great and you always get complimented on how nice it looks.
What I Want to Study: I want to study landscape architecture to make everyone’s lawn look like a piece of art that is unique to the home or business. In order for me to gain additional skills, I should take design & environment classes, architectural design, and historic preservation design studio in college. All these classes are an important step towards becoming a landscape architect.
What I Can Do In The Future: I can use my landscaping knowledge to be a landscape architect and do the planning for the yard, whether it be commercial or residential, or if I am ambitious, I can even do both. Or, if I do not want to focus as much on the design aspect, I can be a landscaper, and maintain the plants, grass, and flowers. Working in a greenhouse is another option for me as well. I can do all the initial work of growing all the shrubs and plants that the landscape architects would use in their design and the landscaper would maintain.
