Program Profile: Exercise Physiology | Home | |||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: I have always tried to take care of myself, which meant eating right and going to the gym. It also included drinking as much water as I could, and getting the proper amount of sleep every night. When someone asked me what I wanted to study in college, I did not know what to say. Then I realized that I should study something that I really enjoyed. I asked around at the gym to see if there was anything I could study in college that would fit my interests. Exercise physiology was brought up, so I did some research on that and realized it was a perfect fit for me. Exercise physiology involves treating, maintaining, and improving someone’s health and physical condition.
What I Want to Study: I want to study exercise physiology because I like motivating people to live a healthy lifestyle. Some people are not sure what they need to do to live a healthy lifestyle, and that is when I would help them. Some classes in college I will have to take include: human physiology, exercise and sport psychology, and introduction to exercise science. If I choose, I can focus on a particular area, such as athletics or weight loss.
What I Can Do In The Future: After studying exercise physiology, there are many options for job opportunities. I can become an exercise physiologist, and work in a center dedicated to improving health. Or, with further training, I can be a physical therapist, and help treat people who are injured. Exercise physiology is also a great background to have if you want to be an athletic trainer.
