Career Profile: Theater Attendant | Home | Activity | ||
| Informal perspective of what an occupation might be like. |
What I Do: Most people go to the movies for entertainment, but I go there to work! I’m an attendant at a movie theater with sixteen screens and two concession stands. I do a little bit of everything, depending on the shift. Sometimes I work in the booth selling tickets and answering questions about show times. At other times, I stand at the entrance taking tickets and directing people to the right theater. Occasionally, I staff the concession counter, selling popcorn, drinks, and candy. I also help keep the lobby and the theaters clean.
Best and Hardest Parts of My Job: I like being a theater attendant. I get to do different things, and the hours are good, too. I’m not an early morning person, and I never have to be at work by 8:00 a.m. like most people! The hardest part is dealing with irate or rude customers. Some people talk all through the movie, which makes other customers mad. People even bring babies to a movie and wonder why people get upset when the baby cries! As the attendant, I have to handle these problems.
How I Got Started: I’m a big movie fan, so when I wanted a part-time job, I thought working at a movie theater would be really cool. And it is! I’ve learned so much about being a good employee, like showing up for work on time and being friendly to customers. Those traits will help me in any job I might have in the future. For now, though, I’m just happy being an attendant.
