Program Profile: Hotel Management | Home | |||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: I have always enjoyed traveling. When I was a kid, my parents took me on many vacations and my favorite part was staying in the hotel! The elevators, the fancy decorations, and the cozy rooms all made the trip very exciting, and the people who worked at the hotel tried hard to make me feel at home. Although I could not prepare for a job in hotel management in high school, I paid attention in economics and in math so that I could better understand business management when I got to college.
What I Want to Study: Studying hotel management involves learning how to run and manage a business. I will also have to understand accounting, human resources, marketing, and public health and safety regulations, all of which are needed in order to run a hotel. Part of hotel management is focusing on customer service and hospitality, which is what I enjoy the best. I want to make sure that if I am in charge of a hotel, the people who stay there are happy and will want to come again.
What I Can Do In The Future: Studying hotel management allows me the opportunity to work in many different positions, from housekeeping to accounting. I can work in the front office or manage personnel. When conventions need a hotel, I could organize and arrange everything they might need, reserving hotel space and helping them set up their presentations. Hotels also need someone to be in charge of their recreational facilities, such as the weight room, swimming pool, or sauna. I am hoping to become the general manager for a large hotel one day, overseeing everything that happens and making it better for my customers.
