Program Profile: Geography Teacher Education | Home | Activity | ||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: I have visited many different places around the world, and have found each country special in its own unique way. I have lots of photo albums and souvenirs documenting my travels. In high school I did not have to take any special classes to prepare me for college, but I wanted to take as many electives in geography and history as possible.
What I Want to Study: I want to study to be a geography teacher because I want to be able to share my experiences with others, and I decided that becoming a geography teacher would be a good way to expose others to the world. Being a geography teacher would be my job, but traveling to other countries is my hobby. Although I have done a lot of traveling and will continue to do so, I still need to be properly and formally educated in order to teach in a classroom. Some classes I will take in college include cultural geography, economic geography, and instructional teaching of geography. If I become a geography teacher, I will have the best of best worlds, I will get to teach in the classroom and continue my explorations overseas.
What I Can Do In The Future: After getting my geography degree from college, I have many options. I can take some education classes and get certified as a geography teacher so I can share my interest of the world with others. However, if I wanted to apply my ability of drawing, I could become a cartographer and design maps. Another option for me is to become a surveyor. Surveyor’s mark boundaries and collect data for legal purposes.
